Former Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres passed away on 28 September 2016. He suffered a stroke two weeks ago and his condition improved before a sudden deterioration on 27 September.
Designations Peres held:
Shimon Peres was the 9th President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. Peres served twice as the Prime Minister of Israel and twice as interim Prime Minister, and he was a member of 12 cabinets in a political career spanning over 66 years.
The Legacy of Peres:
Peres was one of the last of a generation of Israeli politicians present at the new nation’s birth in 1948. Once an advocate of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, he later became a leading political dove. He often spoke of the need for compromise over territorial demands in Palestinian areas.
He won the Nobel Peace prize in 1994 for his role negotiating peace accords with the Palestinians a year earlier. He shared this prestigious prize with Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was later assassinated, and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
About Peres’ life:
Shimon Peres was born Szymon Perski, on 2 August 1923, in Wiszniew, Poland (now Vishnyeva, Belarus). In 1932, Peres’ father immigrated to Palestine and settled in Tel Aviv (Israel). The family followed him in 1934. In 1947, Peres joined the Haganah, the predecessor of the Israel Defense Forces. David Ben-Gurion made him responsible for personnel and arms purchases.
The Swedish newspaper was recently asked it to delete the reference made by President Pranab Mukherjee to the Bofors scam in an interview to it, as a claim protested by the Indian Government on 27 May 2015. India has expressed disappointment over the disrespect shown to the President, the newspaper has defended its right to publish what was said during the interview.

He was appointed head of newly constituted committee to give recommendations to recast the model of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model in India. India is one of the largest PPP market with over 900 projects. The Kelkar committee will review the PPP policy, suggest a better risk-sharing mechanism between private developers and the government after analysing such projects.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar was crowned as the new Maharaja of of Mysuru (Mysore) royal family. He is the 23-year old grandson of Princess Gayathri Devi, who was the eldest daughter of the last Maharaja of Mysore, Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. The coronation was held at Mysuru’s famous Amba Vilas Palace, which was decked up for the occasion.
